Pigmentation

Pigmentation on the skin is a common condition. It can appear on the skin in various forms such as melasma, age spots and hyperpigmentation. Our range of innovative treatments can effectively reduce the appearance of pigmentation tailored to your skin type.

What causes pigmentation?

The appearance of pigmentation on the surface of the skin is most commonly caused by damaged or unhealthy melanocytes cells. These cells make up the melanin in our skin which is how our skin gets its colour. The cells can be damaged by sun exposure, age, hormones and medications, causing an overproduction of the cells and pigmentation to occur. Pigmentation often appears on the face, chest, arms and hands.

Other causes of pigmentation could be the result of:

  • Hereditary, your susceptibility to developing pigmentation can run in families.
  • The contraceptive pill, pregnancy and menopause, due to the fluctuations of hormones
  • Excessive sun exposure and use of sunbeds
  • Ageing
  • Mechanical trauma such as acne
