Acne

Acne is a common skin condition characterised by sore red spots beneath and on the surface of the skin. Acne can occur in various areas of the body, most commonly developing on the face, neck, shoulder, upper back and chest.

Acne is caused by an excess of sebum; this is an oily substance which is produced by glands at the base of hair follicles. When too much sebum is produced, hair follicles can become clogged with dead skin cells, debris and P. acnes bacteria causing spots and inflammation.

Acne can also develop in the form of whiteheads (pores that are closed and clogged that bulge out from under the skin), blackheads (open clogged pores which darken) and nodules (infected cysts or lumps which are larger than usual spots and are often painful to touch).

Treatment

With correct expertise, care and latest technologies we can tailor a treatment plan to you. Many people will see a reduction and improvement to the quality of the skin.

Acne can also leave scarring and skin discolouration on the skin. So, even when acne heals, scars of the condition can remain on the skin. The importance of removing the scars can significantly improve a person’s confidence. With the right treatment plan, acne scars can be treated carefully and effectively.

The symptoms of acne can vary between individuals, ranging from mild to severe. Typically, teenagers develop acne due to hormonal changes during puberty. Acne can also be genetic, so if your family has a history of acne, you’re more likely to develop it too. The good news is that in most cases, acne is temporary and goes away on its own in the early to mid-twenties.

At Pearl Aesthetics we understand the importance of acne care and acne scar removal. We will provide a combination of treatment plans to provide the best care to help control your acne. If you’re looking for expert help, get in touch.

We will also recommend products for you to use at home to continue your treatment. Here are some of our top tips to reduce any inflammation or outbreaks:

  • Try to avoid further overproduction of the oily sebum on the skin by not over-drying affected areas. The skin’s reaction to overly dry skin is to procedure more sebum to counteract the dryness.
  • Resist the urge to squeeze your spots at home. When this is done incorrectly it can lead to further infection and scarring.
  • Choose mineral make-up instead of heavy makeup to avoid clogging up your pores further.
  • Fully remove any makeup before you go to bed.
  • Use skincare products formulated for acne-prone skin.
