Before Laser Treatment
We will ask you to avoid any hair removal methods that remove the root of the hair, such as waxing, threading or removal creams for 6 weeks before the treatment, also throughout your course of treatment. We recommend that you shave the areas to be treated 12 hours before your appointment.
Please avoid sunbeds, limit sun exposure, and avoid fake tan 2 weeks before your appointment.
Medications that can cause photosensitivity may prevent us from treating you, please let your nurse prescriber be aware of this in your consultation.
During Treatment
The skin is cleaned, checked that it has been shaved and is stubble-free.
We do our best to ensure your treatment is comfortable. You will experience the cooling tip of the applicator which is used to protect the skin and minimise skin damage. We will also ask you to wear the provided eyewear during your procedure.
After Laser Treatment
It is typical to experience mild redness or sensitivity. We recommend the use of aloe vera gel to calm and soothe the skin.
We will ask you to protect your skin with a factor 30-50 SPF sunscreen post treatment and throughout the course of your treatment. It is best if you can avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation or darker pigmentation.
Please avoid any vigorous exercise, swimming, sauna, steam as this may cause irritation.
Please avoid hair removal methods that remove the root of the hair. Such as, waxing, epilating or tweezing. This can deeply affect the optimal results of your treatment. Shaving or depilatories may be used after 4 days post treatment.
The hair regrowth occurs as a cycle, with each hair growing at different times in the cycle. Anywhere between 5-21 days after the treatment, shedding of the surface hair may occur and this can appear as new hair growth. However, this is NOT new hair growth. You can clean and remove this hair by washing or shaving.
After the underarms are treated, please use a powder instead of deodorant for up to 24 hours after the treatment to reduce skin irritation.
Please any avoid hot baths or heat treatments. Treat the skin gently for the first 24 hours.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Occasionally, an increase in hair growth can be seen after laser treatment. This is due to synchronisation of hair regrowth cycles following one or more laser treatments where more hair enters the anagen phase than usual. The next laser treatment will successfully remove this.
Who Can Be Treated?
The Soprano Ice Platinum is suitable for any skin type (Fitzpatrick 1-6). As well as tanned skin (wait 2 weeks after sun exposure).
Who Can’t Be Treated?
The laser works by targeting the melanin pigment within the hair follicle. As a result, ginger, white or grey hair will not be affected by the laser.
The more melanin in the hair, the more effective the treatment tends to be. Very fine hair may also not be treated by the laser because the hair is lacking melanin (the hair colour) for the laser to effectively target.
We can only treat clients aged 18. Other conditions to be aware of:
We cannot treat clients who are taking Accutane or similar anti-acne medications. Clients who are taking regular antibiotics. Anyone pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant. Anyone who presents with sunburn, peeling skin or has significant sun exposure less than 2 weeks before the appointment.
Clients who have fake tan on, please avoid these 2 weeks before your appointment. Clients with a history of cold sores, we ask you to take anti-viral medication 3 days before and after your appointment. Clients with vitiligo, light-sensitive epilepsy, a history of keloid scarring or lupus.
Clients currently taking any medication or herbal supplement that may cause photosensitivity. It is advisable to seek a doctor’s note in this case before commencing treatment.
During your consultation, we will be discussing all aspects of the treatment in more detail.
Is It Safe?
The laser is very safe and there is an extremely low risk of complications. The Soprano Ice Platinum system is one of the safest on the market, the applicator is passed back and forth over the treatment area so that energy and warmth builds up over a few seconds. The cooling system prevents the skin from hyperpigmentation by maintaining a low temperature of the skin throughout the treatment.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Laser hair removal will only target hair in the anagen phase of the growth cycle. At any time, roughly 10-15% of the hair in any particular area will be in the anagen phase.
By spacing treatments, 6-8 (body) and 4-6 (face) weeks apart. The laser can successfully target each hair within the anagen phase. So, you can expect a 10-15% reduction in hair per treatment.
Typically, we recommend 6 to 8 treatments per area, with possibly more sessions needed for more resistant areas such as the face or private areas.
For maintenance, we recommend 1-2 sessions per year.
Shaving Myths
Shaving cannot increase your hair growth!
We will ask you to shave any area you’re getting treated to ensure your procedure is safe and effective. The optimal time to shave is around 12 hours before your appointment. This gives time for your skin to calm down and for any redness to fade while still leaving a smooth surface for the laser to treat.
By not shaving, the laser will heat the hair outside the skin rather than the root structures. This is uncomfortable and presents an increased risk of side effects and will affect the end result. Anyone who arrives for a laser hair removal unshaven will not be able to receive treatment.
Pearl Aesthetics offers men’s shaving for the back and shoulder area for the small charge of £20 per visit. Speak to our team to arrange a shaving appointment around 12 hours prior to your laser treatment.
Can I Have Laser Hair Removal If I Have a Suntan?
You must wait a minimum of 14 days after sun exposure before having a laser hair removal treatment. Please avoid sun exposure at least 14 days after treatment.
Please avoid sunbeds throughout your course of laser hair removal as this can seriously affect your optimal results. If your skin is sunburnt or is peeling, you will need to wait until the skin is completely healed before commencing treatment again, which will also affect your end results.
