How does it work?
The platelet-rich plasma is derived from a patient’s blood sample. These platelets contain very high levels of growth factors. When applied to the skin they stimulate cell regeneration, healing injured or damaged tissue.
PRP for pigmentation involves a series of targeted regeneration and remodelling processes in the body. When applied to the skin, PRP helps to stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin, helping to reduce the appearance of melasma in a natural way.
How many treatments do I need?
Depending on your individual case of pigmentation, we typically recommend a course of PRP consisting of 2-3 treatments over the course of 3 months. The treatment will be followed with a recommended maintenance program once or twice a year.
Are results permanent?
It is possible for melasma to return after successful treatment if precautions aren’t taken to protect the skin. We recommend you use a broad-spectrum sun protection with SPF 30 or higher. Also, avoid skincare products that are overly severe as these can exacerbate melasma.

As every treatment is tailored to the patient, a bespoke treatment of Botulinum will be administered to help achieve your desired results. Typically, 5 to 10 small injections are needed depending on the area being treated. The full treatment combined with the consultation will last around 30 minutes.
Are there any contraindications?
Treatment is not recommended if you are under 18, are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
Your nurse prescriber will discuss everything in detail with you during your consultation as there are many other conditions and medications which could interact with the procedure. Please be upfront with your medical history, however, PRP is rarely contraindicated.
Who performs the treatment?
As the injections are viewed as a medical treatment, they should be performed by a qualified professional in a medical environment. At the clinic, our team of highly experienced and highly qualified nurse prescribers ensure that every treatment we complete is safe, and of a high professional standard.
How much does it cost?
- £400 for one area
- £600 for two areas
- £800 for three areas
How soon can I start to see results?
Optimal results can be seen between two to three months after treatment, where the PRP has helped to revitalise the skin. There is a possibility of localised swelling around the injected areas, this is typical and will reduce after a day or two. If any unexpected swelling continues, please get in touch.
When will I see results?
You can typically start seeing optimal results between 2-3 months post treatment.
Is the treatment painful? Will I bruise?
PRP for Melasma and Pigmentation is extremely safe as it recycles the body’s blood. The only potential risks are discomfort with the blood sample being taken, and small bruising from injection.
Are there any side effects?
Every patient’s experience of pain is different, however, we will try our best to make the treatment as comfortable as possible for you. Bruising around the injection site is possible but only a small percentage of patients develop small bruising. If bruising occurs, it is usually apparent at day 2-3 and will typically resolve over 5-10 days.
Other possible side effects include swelling or puffiness, mild irritation and bruising around the eyes. This bruising is very common as the under-eye area has lots of small blood vessels.
Downtime
I can take a day or two to recover, depending on the level of microdermabrasion used on your skin. You may have slight redness after treatment, similar to a sunburn. We recommend the use of sun cream post treatment and discourage the use of makeup immediately after treatment.
I'm pregnant, can I have PRP for Melasma and Pigmentation?
We do not advise PRP procedures during pregnancy or breast-feeding.
Could I have the PRP for Melasma and Pigmentation if I am not 18?
The treatment is recommended for people between the ages of 18 and 60. Unfortunately, anyone under the age of 18 cannot receive this treatment.
Can I go back to work immediately after the treatments?
You may experience tenderness or soreness after your treatment. Any swelling should reduce within a few days. These side effects are completely normal and do not present concern. To help the treated area heal, avoid touching the treated area, wearing makeup or partaking in physical exercise in the days following your treatment.
Aftercare advice
For a minimum of 5 hours after treatment, we ask that you do not:
Wash or expose the treated areas directly to heat or the sun
Engage in strenuous exercise that can cause sweating
Expose the treated areas to saunas, steam rooms, jacuzzi, or hot showers
You will be given a detailed aftercare leaflet post treatment explaining everything you need to know.
