Do wrinkle-relaxing injections hurt?
The treatment is safe and quick to perform. Anti-wrinkle injections are quite superficial, being performed with a very thin needle, however there is minimum discomfort.
What do we use?
We use branded Allergan Botox, which is known as the longest lasting product on the market.
Who performs the injections?
As the injections are viewed as a medical treatment, they should be performed by a qualified professional in a medical environment. At the clinic, our team are highly experienced and highly qualified nurse prescribers, ensuring that every treatment we complete is safe and meets the highest professional standard.
What does the treatment involve?
Treatment starts with an initial consultation. We will take the time to understand the results you’re looking for and advise accordingly. Then, we will assess the areas you’re looking to soften or rejuvenate and take professional photographs for your private record sheet.
As every treatment is tailored to the patient, a bespoke treatment of Botulinum will be administered to help achieve your desired results. Typically, 5 to 10 small injections are needed depending on the area being treated. The full treatment combined with the consultation will last around 30 minutes.
How long does it take to work and how long will the results last?
Results of the treatment are not immediate. Typically, it takes several days for the muscles to respond, with the efficacy peaking between 2 to 3 weeks.
The treatment works by placing the muscles into a ‘hibernation’, so you can expect results to last for approximately 3 to 6 months. The lasting results depend on the area you’re getting treated, how the treatment has been performed and if you’ve had treatment previously. Treatment is recommended to maintain the skin smoothing result and patients have found that effects last longer after their first or second top-up of treatment.
Anti-wrinkle injection results should never wear off after a few weeks. If it does, it is likely that you have not been receiving the correct treatment, with the main reason for failure being related to the injection technique. This may include inactive or old Botulinum, an inadequate number of units or being overly diluted. It should be stated that there is a risk of developing a resistance to treatment, however, this is extremely uncommon (1 in 10,000). By choosing a professional prescriber, you can assure you are getting expert treatment and service that are tailored to you.
Will I look expressionless or 'frozen' after treatment?
Accuracy and professionalism of the treatment plays an important role in achieving a natural result without any ‘frozen’ appearance. The treatment works by temporarily paralysing targeted facial muscles to relax any wrinkles caused by the consistent movement of the muscles. By using advanced techniques and through targeting the correct areas of the facial muscles, the skin will appear smooth while allowing the facial muscles to continue working normally. So, your facial expression will be unaffected by our professional treatments, and your skin will appear more rested and youthful.
Am I the right age for treatment?
The anti-wrinkle treatment works better where the skin is more elastic. However, it can be successfully used to smooth wrinkles between the ages of 20 and 65. The anti-wrinkle treatment works best with patients who have lines caused by facial muscle pull, compared to lines caused by an excess of loose skin or sun damage. Within your consultation, we will be able to assess and recommend the right treatment plan for you.
Can I have wrinkle relaxing treatment if I am not 18?
Unfortunately, no. At such a young age, this type of treatment is hardly needed. However, if for example, you require gummy smile correction we would recommend that clients wait until the age of 18 for this treatment.
I'm pregnant, can I have wrinkle-relaxing injections?
Wrinkle-relaxing injections are not advised for pregnant or nursing mums, as the effects on the baby are currently unknown.
Are there any side effects?
Whenever the skin is pierced with a needle, it does carry a minor risk of infection, bruising and swelling. These side effects are typical and will be limited to the injection site. Any side effects will reduce after a few days post-treatment.
To reduce these side effects, we use very small paediatric gauge needles for administration within our professional clinic. It is a straightforward procedure, although we haven’t had a single case of ptosis (eyelid drooping). It is a possible result of anti-wrinkle injections and we wish to be completely transparent about any side effects, regardless of how rare they might be.
Is there any downtime or specific instruction post-treatment?
Avoid rubbing, lying down for up to four hours and exercising post-treatment. Mild bruising can rarely occur, but it will subside within 2-3 days. Bruising around the injection site is possible but only a small percentage of patients develop small bruising. If bruising occurs, it is usually apparent at day 2-3 and will typically resolve over 5-10 days.
Can I receive treatment straight after my consultation?
Yes, this is possible and completely up to you. Many of our patients who travel long distances have their consultation and receive treatment on the same day. Both the consultation and treatment typically takes around 30 minutes.
I had an anti-wrinkle treatment recently, why do I still have lines on my face?
In a few cases, some people will have a small groove in their skin where the wrinkles were, especially if these lines were particularly deep. It also depends on skin quality if the skin is sun-damaged or aged. It can take a few weeks or months for the treated skin to relax and heal to smooth these lines. In your consultation with us, we will manage your expectations and will always be open and honest with potential results you could achieve with anti-wrinkle treatment.
What is your policy in respect of top-ups?
If you feel that two weeks after your injections you need a top-up, please get in touch as soon as you can. At this point, we can offer you a top-up appointment within a strict time period. Top-ups must be decided on carefully as you have a higher risk of developing an immunity to the treatment in the future.
